Palais Royal
In the 1980s, the ‘Caisse Nationale des Monuments Historiques et des Sites’ launched a competition. The aim was to design furniture for the gardens of the Palais-Royal in Paris. Jean-Michel Wilmotte’s project was chosen; he redesigned the Peynet’s kissing chair, with its romantic scrolls, to create a more contemporary and functional version, while keeping the steel wire frame. Sixty copies of it were made for the Palais Royal, and it has often been “borrowed” since.
The idea behind this re-release by Fermob is to return to the original proportions but to use tubular steel for enhanced lightness.
